Interested in becoming a Trombone in The Longhorn Band?
We would love to have you join us! Prospective members can e-mail any (or all!) of next year's section leaders below to get information on how to join the band. You can also e-mail the section leaders if you have any questions about LHB; we will be more than glad to answer them. E-mails will be checked all the time, so e-mail us any time. If you're a senior in high school, we encourage you to ask your director to nominate you for the Sideline Crew. This is a great way to get a taste of what game days are like for members of the Longhorn Band and to feel the experience of what it's like in a stadium packed with 83,000 other crazy Longhorn fans. At any rate, we hope to see you next August as a prospective member of the Texas Longhorn Trombone section. |

Tryout Dates and Audition Info:
All tryouts take place in the LHB Band Hall. For the initial audition you must play the 12 Major scales, the chromatic scale and two song excepts: one technical and one lyrical. If you can't make any of the open audition dates, you can schedule an individual appointment with one of the directors or send in a recording. Don't worry about this audition! This is only to make sure that you can still play your horn decently (this is a given...). The second audition that you will have to go through will be during Hell Week, when all Prospectives will have another final round of playing and marching auditions for final placement into the Longhorn Band. To be successful for this second audition, you need to make sure that you practice on your horn during the summer on fundamentals and the music that you will eventually receive from the Longhorn Band and obviously attend Hell Week so that you can actually audition. Don't slack! Although there are many trombone positions available, the competition for these spots are intense because everyone has to reaudition for the band every year, so if you end up slacking, you're asking for a butt whooping. Live Audition Dates for 2007 Saturday, April 29, 2006 More info on auditions can be found on the |
Marching Clinic Dates:
The dates for marching clinics will be posted sometimes towards the end of the spring semester. We HIGHLY recommend that you attend these marching clinics, which... obviously focus on Longhorn Band marching technique, which we have to say, is different (to your liking) than from the average high school marching style. This will give you a head start (or even-footing) with other Longhorn Band prospectives by the time you get to campus for Hell Week. Marching clinics are usually held on Saturdays during July in the major metropolitan areas of Texas of Dallas/Fort Worth, San Antonio, Houston, and in Austin by the Section Leaders and Drum Major. Marching clinics are usually two hours in duration. Don't miss out on this opportunity to get a preview of what Longhorn Band marching style and technique is like! |
